Copyright Legal Coach Version 1.2 - Released December 11, 2009 View the full copyright statute (Title 17 of the U.S. Code), rules from the Code of Federal Regulations (all of Chapter II, subchapter A, Title 37), and a helpful breakdown of the most relevant provisions for easy access.
The goal of this App is to understand federal application requirements for registering a copyright. A Registration Guide was designed to highlight the most important aspects of registration that include (a) the basics, (b) categories of material, (c) exclusive rights, (d) material that is not copyrightable, (e) registration & application guidelines, (f) preregistration, (g) deposit requirements, (h) notice, (i) duration, (j) fees, (k) pictorial, graphical, & sculptural works, (l) sound recordings, (m) architectural works, (n) designs, (o) nondramatic material, (p) fair use, (q) limitations, (r) technology, and (s) civil & criminal infringement. The CFR chapter that corresponds to Copyright Law is divided into two subchapters. The entire first subchapter is included because it relates to procedures of the Copyright Office. For example, 17 USC 408 specifies that the applicant shall deposit "in the case of an unpublished work, one complete copy". 37 CFR 202.20 provides specific requirements. If the original material is a three-dimensional hologram (sample scenario), the applicant must submit "precise instructions for displaying the image fixed in the hologram" and "photographs or other identifying material ... clearly showing the displayed image". Provisions from Title 18 of the United States Code are also included that pertain to criminal infringement of copyrighted material. Flip between three tabs to read the organized guide, statute, and CFR without scrolling back. For purposes of a mobile device, the navigation menu titles are abbreviated and paraphrased to fit on the screen. Full titles are listed in the textual display when an item is touched. The full display was formatted to maximize the small device screen. The fees are current as of December 6, 2009. ![]() Registration Guide Navigation Tab ![]() U.S. Code Navigation Tab ![]() Textual View of U.S. Code Provision ![]() Full CFR Navigation Tab ![]() Textual Display of CFR Provision Copyright © 2007-2009 - Michael E.
